TCCP
The Texas
Long-Range Plan for technology embraces the
belief that, before technology can significantly
improve learning, teachers must first be
competent with the technology applications that
facilitate their work and support student
learning. To help our educators be proactive and
creative beyond state requirements, the Big
Spring Independent School District
provides their staff a technology competency
certification program which will assist them in
teaching their students the Technology
Applications TEKS.
The Big Spring
Independent School District in
the 1997-1998 school year initiated a technology
tools competencies certification program (T2C2
Program). In the 2003-2004 school year the
program name was changed to TCCP, Technology
Competencies Certification Program;
http://bsisd.esc18.net/Technology/techcertification.html.
The program's purpose is to certify our staff
with an eighth grade competency level in
technology. Big Spring Independent School District
believes this competency level is needed by
Texas educators so they can effectively teach
the Technology Application TEKS. The local
administration has developed an assessment
process for competencies in basic computer
skills, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Telecommunications, and Technology Integration.
Any program has to have a starting point, so a
local decision was made that any new
professional employee hired after 1997 will be
required to complete the level one certification
program. The program must be completed by
contract renewal time of the first year of
employment; failure to complete such
certification by this date can be a basis for
non-renewal.
Technology Competencies Certification Program
Level 1
All new
district classroom teachers of Big Spring ISD
will complete the Level 1 Technology
Competencies Certification Program (TCCP).
1.
Each participant will demonstrate their
technology competencies with a product based on
skills needed to assist them in teaching the
TEKS for Technology Applications effective
September 1998.
2.
Each participant must attend 6 clock hours of
technology training by February 1, 2008. These 6
clock hours of training can be those offered for
completion of the TCCP requirements or other
skills based technology training offered by the
district.
3.
The Basic
Computer Literacy training session
must be attended by all participants.
4.
All product steps must be completed and emailed
to Connie Helms at chelms@bsisd.esc18.net.
Please note, all products must be submitted and
approved by February 1, 2008. Anyone that does
not complete the program in this time frame may
not receive an employment contract for the
following school year.
5.
Each product, Telecommunications, Microsoft
Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel and
Integration will be E-mailed as an attachment to
Connie Helms at: chelms@bsisd.esc18.net.
6.
Each participant will be issued a certificate
upon completion of the program. A copy will be
kept on file with your campus administrator and
placed in your personnel file.
7.
Continuing Professional Education (CPE) hours
will be given for each training session attended
(excluding Make-up session).
8.
Intel Teach to the Future certification meets
the TCCP requirements. A copy of your Intel
certificate must be given to Connie Helms prior
to September 17, 2007. Anyone using their
Intel certificate is still required to complete
6 clock hours of district skills based
technology training by February 1, 2008.
Ways to
complete the program
